Supervisor, Paddington Station with travel to the Bristol office - Rail Business Unit

JSS Rail has experienced substantial growth in reactive works on the Western Frameworks. The business is looking to fill the role of Supervisor at Paddington Station within its Core BU. The role involves leading and managing a team of in-house workforce and subcontractors, compiling updates and reports, and ensuring business controls are maintained across a portfolio of reactive works.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for an operative or someone seeking the next step, with broader exposure to business management. The Supervisor will ensure the availability of adequate labour, plant, materials, and subcontractor resources to meet contract requirements.

The role is based at Paddington Station, with occasional travel to the Bristol office or other managed stations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Clients
  2. Liaise with customers, their representatives, and stakeholders on operational issues.
  3. Develop and maintain effective business relationships.
  4. Propose actions in response to client and stakeholder needs and expectations.
  5. Manage key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  6. Project Delivery
  7. Manage a team of operatives, either geographically or skill-based, allocated to the framework.
  8. Ensure completion of method statements and risk assessments by subcontractors; complete WPP/CPP & H&S paperwork.
  9. Set up a safe and secure work site according to Sisk procedures.
  10. Participate actively in HSEQS management, promoting continuous improvement aligned with our Zero philosophy.
  11. Plan and coordinate trades activities, supervise site subcontractors and the works team, and ensure their competency.
  12. Monitor customer satisfaction and identify improvement areas.
  13. Conduct site assurance inspections and coordinate defect rectifications, updating clients and project managers.
  14. Manage reactive orders, access, and safety-critical requirements.
  15. Ensure all reactive KPIs are achieved.
  16. Reporting
  17. Attend and document site, subcontractor, and internal meetings.
  18. Request and verify necessary information and instructions.
  19. Create and monitor project programs, report progress weekly, and escalate issues promptly.
  20. Update internal systems daily for accurate client reporting.
  21. Risk Management
  22. Secure all necessary approvals for work progression.
  23. Review buildability, identify construction methods, and address non-conformances.
  24. Notify QS of any additional costs or payments due.
  25. Close out safety, quality, and environmental issues from reports and audits.
  26. People Management
  27. Supervise and develop the work team, ensuring competency.
  28. Embed Sisk values of Care, Integrity, and Excellence into all activities.
  29. Support strategic business objectives and act as a Sisk ambassador.
  30. Lead and manage subcontractors and in-house teams, serving as a role model.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Minimum 5 years of construction management experience with a reputable contractor, with high HSEQS standards.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, proactive planning ability.
  • Leadership skills to motivate teams and build consensus.
  • Comprehensive trade knowledge and understanding of codes of practice.
  • Experience working on reactive frameworks.
  • Proficiency with computer systems.
Qualifications & Training
  • Working towards relevant professional qualifications.
  • Required: CSCS for Managers, SMSTS, First Aid, CDM Awareness, Driving License.
  • Desirable: Degree or diploma in construction, Personal Track Safety.
