Job Title: Supervising Social Worker - Children’s Placement Service (Fostering, Support, and Development)

Location: Guildhall Building, Shrewsbury, Shropshire Council SY2 6ND

Rate: £33.30 per hour

Hybrid Working: Flexible, with access to office space at the Guildhall and the ability to work from home

About the Role:

Shropshire Council is seeking a skilled and passionate Supervising Social Worker to join our Children’s Placement Service (Fostering, Support, and Development) team. This role involves working directly with foster carers to support, equip, and ensure they provide the best care for children and young people in Shropshire. You will supervise, support, and develop foster carers, ensuring compliance with fostering regulations and standards.

You will work with a supportive team, applying trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches. Responsibilities include supervising foster carers, conducting reviews, completing assessments, and maintaining records and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide regular supervision to foster carers, discussing key areas, recording, and challenging when necessary.
  • Ensure foster carers comply with regulations and standards, updating records on the Local Children’s System (LCS).
  • Apply trauma-informed, therapeutic support to foster carers.
  • Manage a caseload of foster carers, conducting annual reviews and presenting them to the fostering panel.
  • Participate in team meetings and support colleagues.
  • Participate in a duty rota, support foster carers, and complete viability assessments twice a month.
  • Work flexibly, including remote work and in-office attendance at the Guildhall in Shrewsbury.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Qualified social worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience in fostering services and understanding of regulations and standards.
  • Ability to support using trauma-informed approaches.
  • Proven caseload management skills.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative approach.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid model, including remote work.
