Job summary

Peterborough City Council is seeking an experienced Supervising Social Worker to join its Fostering Service. You will manage a caseload of up to 15 fostering households, providing supervision, guidance and support to ensure high-quality placements.

Location is Sand Martin House, Peterborough with hybrid working (1 day per week in the office) and a 37-hour week; the role offers an hourly rate of £39 via umbrella company.

Qualifications

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
• Experience in a Fostering Team and Form F Assessments.
• Good understanding of fostering legislation, safeguarding and regulations.
• Excellent assessment, communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a caseload of up to 15 fostering households and provide ongoing support.
• Complete Form F Assessments for prospective foster carers.
• Attend Child Care Reviews and Placement Planning meetings; contribute to multi-agency work.
• Undertake monthly foster carer supervisions and annual reviews.
• Support the Placement Team and participate in duty rotas; undertake safeguarding tasks.
• Collaborate with Children's Social Care, Education and Clinical Teams to support placements.

This is an excellent opportunity to support foster carers and contribute to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people in care. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of up to 15 fostering households, providing supervision, guidance, and support to ensure high-quality fostering placements across the service.

About the Role

Rate: £39 per hour
Umbrella Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: Sand Martin House, Peterborough
Working Pattern: Hybrid working with 1 day per week in the office

Key Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive Form F Assessments for prospective foster carers.
• Supervise a caseload of up to 15 fostering households.
• Undertake monthly foster carer supervisions and provide ongoing support and guidance.
• Attend and contribute to Child Care Reviews, Placement Planning Meetings, and other multi-agency meetings.
• Complete annual foster carer reviews.
• Support the Placement Team through participation in a duty rota.
• Undertake statutory checks, risk assessments, and compliance-related tasks.
• Work collaboratively with Children's Social Care, Education, and Clinical Teams to support children in placement.
• Promote placement stability and positive outcomes for children and young people.

Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
• Previous experience within a Fostering Team.
• Experience completing Form F Assessments.
• Strong understanding of fostering legislation, safeguarding, and fostering regulations.
• Excellent assessment, communication, and relationship-building skills.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. A DBS check may be applicable for this role, applicants are required to declare any cautions and convictions that are not protected under current filtering rules.
