As a Supervising Practitioner, youll play a pivotal role in improving the emotional wellbeing of children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs within our growing Compass Bloom Service. Working across education settings, youll deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, support the implementation of Whole School Approaches, and build the confidence of school staff through consultation, training and strategic collaboration.

At the same time, youll provide clinical supervision and guidance to Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and trainees, helping to nurture their development while ensuring safe, effective practice. Youll be central to our efforts to raise standards, strengthen clinical governance, and create an environment where reflective practice thrives.

With your expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and your passion for system-wide impact, youll work closely with a skilled, values-led team committed to early intervention and collaborative care.

Main duties of the job

Youre passionate about shaping services that truly make a differenceand youve got the experience, insight, and drive to lead by example. You understand the pressures facing young people today and know how to guide both individuals and teams towards better mental health outcomes.

To thrive in this role, youll need:

  • A nationally recognised qualification in mental health or a related field (e.g. EMHP, CWP, nursing, psychotherapy, social work)
  • Eligibility to practise under a governing body such as BABCP or NMC
  • At least two years experience delivering therapeutic interventions for children and young people
  • A Postgraduate Certificate in supervision or management, or willingness to undertake it
  • Strong knowledge of CBT-informed approaches and experience providing clinical supervision
  • Confidence in risk assessment, safeguarding and working across agencies
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
  • Ability to work in education or community settings with a flexible, solution-focused mindset
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or equivalent)

Experience in mentorship, leadership within childrens services, or working in a skill-mixed team is a real asset. A postgraduate therapeutic qualificationespecially in low-intensity CBTis highly valued.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Core professional and/or clinical qualification) e.g. EMHP, CWP, PMHW, nursing with specialism in mental health or learning disability nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work) and must be committed to maintaining registration if applicable
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Supervision (EMHP supervisor course)
  • or
  • Two years post qualification experience of working therapeutically with children and young people and willingness to undertake PG Cert if required
  • Management / supervision training
  • Therapeutic post graduate qualification (ideally in low intensity CBT)
Experience
  • Two years post qualification experience of working therapeutically with children and young people e.g., as an EMHP/CYP-IAPT practitioner
  • Experience of line management and/or delivery of clinical supervision
  • Experience of delivering CBT informed supervision, ideally of practice related to education settings
  • Experience of working in a community and/or educational environment
  • Evidence of clinical development in practice
  • Experience of effective engagement with CYPF
  • Risk assessment and management in the delivery of clinical services (including safeguarding)
  • Experience of leadership within Children and Young People clinical service areas
  • Experience of providing mentorship
  • Experience of organising team duties
  • Experience of inducting staff members
