Job summary

National Grid plc is seeking an Operations Manager - Substations to lead the safe, efficient operation of transmission substations across five sites in Surrey/Middlesex. You will manage a dispersed team of around 22 FTE and coach for high performance and safety.

The role requires C-level leadership, effective cross-functional collaboration, and delivery of maintenance, faults and capital works in a 24/7 network. Hybrid working is supported.

Qualifications

• Proven safety leadership and track record.
• Experience leading dispersed teams and managing costs.
• Strong communication across sites and stakeholders.
• Full UK driving licence required.
• Experience in electricity transmission or distribution, maintenance or construction.
• NEBOSH or willingness to work towards.

Responsibilities

• Lead 13 direct reports and a wider team of ~22 FTE across 5 sites.
• Ensure safe, efficient and resilient operation of transmission substations.
• Drive high performance, continuous improvement and safety culture.
• Oversee preventative maintenance and fault response, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate cross-functional projects and support major capital works.
• Communicate clearly with teams, stakeholders and sites.
