Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Plant and Cable Maintenance Manager for the Tayside & Argyll region. You will oversee a team of managers, engineers and technicians, coordinating inspections, planned works and urgent repairs to ensure safe, reliable operation of transmission assets.

Role requires extensive asset maintenance experience, leadership ability, and a strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Extensive operation & maintenance experience of plant & cable assets, ideally ISO 55000.
• Senior Authorised Person experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Experience leading a team in an electrical maintenance environment.
• Strong safety focus with knowledge of ISO 55000, ESQCR, CDM and Health & Safety rules.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient data management; MS Office skills.
• Full valid driving licence; willingness to travel across the operational area.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support a maintenance team to ensure inspections, planned works and urgent repairs are completed safely and effectively.
• Provide visible leadership and drive cost savings, quality and growth in the maintenance function.
• Manage performance and budget forecasts with clear operational KPIs.
• Oversee 24/7 network emergency responses and coordinate actions during major events.
• Promote SSEN Transmission safety culture and contribute to policy/procedure improvements.

The Role

We are hiring a Plant and Cable Maintenance Manager for the SSEN Transmission network in the Tayside & Argyll region. Our maintenance Manager will oversee a team of a team manager, maintenance engineers, technicians and fitters. You will coordinate all planned and reactive maintenance – including inspections, routine upkeep and repairs – to ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of our transmission assets.

You will

• Supervise and support a maintenance team to ensure inspections, planned works and urgent repairs are completed safely and effectively. This included the responsibility to ensure all maintenance is organised, compliant and meets high standards.
• Provide visible, confident guidance and constituently embody the SSEN Leadership Blueprint. You will empower the value of the maintenance function, shaping the strategy by identifying opportunities for cost savings, improving quality and driving operational growth.
• Manage performance and budget forecasts for your area, ensuring accurate Operational Expenditure reporting and maintaining clear KPIs to support decisions and show operational success.
• Oversee the networks round the clock operational response, playing a managing role in the preparation, coordination, and direction of actions during major system emergencies such as storms and other exceptional events. Your guidance will ensure an organised, efficient and resilient network.
• Proactively foster and strengthen SSEN Transmission’s safety culture, taking initiative to enhance the safety of yourself and your colleagues. You will contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of policies and procedures supporting safe and compliant working practices across the network.

You have

• Extensive experience and proven knowledge in the operation and maintenance plant and cable assets. Ideally to ISO 55000 standards. Previous experience as a Senior Authorised Person is advantageous but not essential.
• Ideally demonstrational experience in managing or leading a team within an electrical maintenance environment.
• A strong dedication to safety, coupled with a thorough understanding of key regulatory requirements, including ISO 55000, ESQCR, CDM and Health and Safety at Work regulations, as well as clear operational safety rules.
• Excellent administrative, written and verbal communication skills, alongside confident data management abilities. Competence in Microsoft office applications essential.
• A Full valid driving licence as regular travel and on-site attendance across operational area is required.
