SSE PLC is seeking a Substation and Overhead Line Inspector based in Reading. This role involves performing safety inspections and vegetation clearance for the Distribution Network, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Candidates should have a full driving license and an understanding of DNO operations.
Base Location: Slough, Reading & West London (Thames Valley)
Salary: £29,504 - £34,757 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

We are looking for a Substation and Overhead Line Inspector to join our team!
A Substation and Overhead Line Inspector is responsible for carrying out the routine safety and condition inspections of our Distribution Assets, covering all plant types and voltages associated with the Distribution Network. As well as carrying out inspections, you will also be required to carry out vegetation clearance activities in a variety of conditions and weathers.
All inspections and clearance activities need to be recorded accurately to inform future investment decisions and to ensure compliance with all internal and legislative policies.
You will have
- An understanding of a Distribution Network Operations (DNO) business and Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
- Knowledge of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations including asbestos and confined space awareness.
- Previous experience operating landscaping machinery such as hedge and brush cutter.
- CAT 1c Entry to a Distribution, Primary or Grid Substation with exposed conductors however we can provide training to obtain Cat 1 authorisation if you don't hold this.
- PA1 and PA6 NPTC spraying qualifications would be an advantage, but not necessary as all training can be provided.
As there is a requirement to travel to various locations, a full driving license is essential.
