Overview

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a substantive Urological Surgeon specializing in Andrology and Penile Cancer. This is a full-time post with emphasis on Advanced Benign Andrology including Penile Implants and Penile Cancer. Closing date: 13 October 2025.

Main duties

The appointee will join a team of 20 Consultants (13 substantive, 3 locum and 4 joint colleagues). The resident rota includes 10 colleagues (5 deanery trainees and 5 fellows). The job plan is divided between out-patient work (St George's, Queen Mary’s), day surgery, and in-patient delivery including surgery. The post attracts a 1:13 on-call commitment on the Urology Consultant of the Week rota (including weekend), with twice daily ward rounds and review of all patients by the consultant. All elective commitments are cancelled when the consultant is the consultant of the week. The appointee is expected to undertake teaching duties for undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other professional groups, participate in research activities, and contribute to the clinical governance programme.

About us

The Department of Urology employs 20 Consultant Urological Surgeons (13 based at St George's) with others holding joint appointments with Kingston and Epsom, St Helier and Croydon University Hospital. St George's Hospital is a major trauma centre and provides emergency, reconstructive and long-term urological care, including management of urological injuries from renal trauma, pelvic fracture, priapism and penile fracture. We operate a consultant of the week on-call model with separate cover during week nights, during which elective activities are cancelled to focus on emergency work. St George's is part of RM Partners with the Royal Marsden Hospitals, providing cancer treatment to a large patient pool in South West London and the wider regional network; St George’s is the primary provider for complex cancer surgery. There is an expectation to work in multidisciplinary teams. The penile cancer team serves a catchment of 11 million people and provides care for 36 hospital trusts across the South of England.
