Applications are invited for the substantive post of Consultant Orthodontist at The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a part-time post offering 5 Programmed Activities per week.

The Countess of Chester Hospital is delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated team player to join our well established Orthodontic and Oral and Maxillofacial team. The purpose of this post is to ensure that a comprehensive Orthodontic service is provided to the population served by The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and the successful candidate will be expected to integrate within the existing clinical team.

Main duties of the job

This opportunity is for a part-time substantive Consultant appointment in Orthodontics and is based on 5 Programmed Activities per week. This post has arisen due to a partial retirement within the team, and the candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of existing consultants in order to provide a complete Orthodontic service for the patients served by our Trust.

The appointee will be responsible for the provision of orthodontic assessment, advice, planning and care of patients referred to the Trust.

Working for our organisation

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

• The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
• Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
• Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £16per year applies.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Full registration with GDC, on GDC Specialist List in Orthodontics.
  • MOrth or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Orthodontics
  • Completed or within 6 months of attaining ISFE (Orthodontics).
Clinical Experience and Effectiveness
  • Special interest in multidisciplinary management.
  • Evidence of SAC approved specialist training in orthodontic to consultant level or equivalent
  • Evidence of 2 year Post CSST or equivalent training
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level
  • Ability to develop specialty interest to complement the department.
Teaching & Training Experience
  • Successful completion of an SAC-approved 2 year minimum post-CCST training programme in Orthodontics or equivalent.
  • Experience of teaching dental undergraduates and postgraduate trainees.
  • Attendance at teaching skills courses
Management & Administrative Experience
  • Demonstrable use of Clinical Audit within a Service.
  • Demonstrable use of research and evidence base to practice.
  • Understanding of importance of management skills.
  • Publications in peer reviewed dental journals.
  • Relevant experience in undertaking and organisation of Audit.
  • Attendance at relevant courses.
Personal Attributes
  • Ability to integrate within, motivate, and provide professional leadership in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in managerial roles

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
If the role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Enhanced DBS check applications that are submitted with omitted or incorrect information will be withdrawn. In the event errors are identified on your original application, a new application will need to be submitted and you will be required to pay the DBS application fee again.

The cost of the DBS application will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.
