Overview

This is a great opportunity to join our existing engineering teams supporting our customers with Systems Engineering requirements. You will work with a consultative approach, building strong relationships with customers, communicating with stakeholders at various seniority levels, and providing a high standard of System Engineering.

The Marine Engineering Submarine (MESM) subject matter expert (SME) is responsible for gathering technical data to support the PMS Operability team, utilizing their in-service onboard systems experience and through-life support and maintenance planning expertise.

You will work within a systems engineering environment to create alerts and warnings, requiring broad platform knowledge to ensure platform management systems are integrated.

This role is remote-based with travel to Barrow 2-3 times a month expected.

Responsibilities
  • Support a team of Systems Engineers delivering an integrated platform management system.
  • Act as the point of contact with the customer (MoD and RN) on all aspects of PMS and integrated systems.
  • Coordinate with Rolls-Royce and Nuclear Propulsion MoD teams on integrating Platform Management System and DDMS at the Centralised Control Council.
  • Collaborate with Human Factors and Operability teams to develop Human-Computer Interface and Control Solutions at various control points.
  • Lead the production of Warnings Management Solutions for the Whole Boat, involving workshops and document reviews.
  • Liaise with MoD, Babcock, RN, ILS, and others to develop PMS and complex systems through life support management.
  • Assist in delivering Platform Management Systems and Emulators for trials to validate usability.
Qualifications
  • Foundation Degree in Engineering or similar scientific qualification.
Essential skills
  • Submarine experience at Cat A or B Watchkeeping level, or equivalent experience with MoD/Rolls-Royce.
  • Experience in through-life support of Submarines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presenting to large audiences and producing high-standard documents.
Desired skills

Understanding of Human Factors.

Experience
  • Minimum 10 years in MESM role.
  • PWR 2.
  • Fwd ME duties.
  • Training requirements, design, or delivery experience.
  • Member of the Boat Build Crew.
  • DE&S/SDA experience.
