Salary: Spine point 1 to PSP3 (£32,178 - £49,725 FTE)

Overview

We are looking for a passionate PE and Sport Tutor to join this high achieving department. The ideal candidate will be able to deliver inspiring lessons, bring knowledge and experience to the curriculum, and have a desire to teach beyond the specification, believing that every student can succeed, with an appreciation that the commitment to delivering outstanding education and outcome goes beyond the classroom. We would be particularly interested in a candidate with a strong track record and experience of teaching anatomy and physiology components of both vocational and/or A Level courses.

All staff within the Trust need to have a commitment to professional development, an enthusiasm for team work and a passion for improvement. While a teaching qualification is desirable, we will consider applications from non-qualified graduates. Graduates looking to start a career in teaching at the Sixth Form College will be allocated a reduced timetable with comprehensive support and mentoring. Future opportunities to obtain a teacher qualification will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to teaching across both Level 3 Vocational Sport and A Level PE courses.
  • Potential involvement in enrichment programme, providing high quality coaching to one of the college's competitive teams.
  • Support professional development, contribute to team work and improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver Cambridge Technical Sport (single and double awards) and A Level PE as part of department offerings.
Department Context

Sport and PE is a department that leads in delivering Cambridge Technical Sport and A Level PE, and offers a full extracurricular programme with opportunities to compete locally, regionally and nationally. Meaningful employer engagement, volunteering and work experience opportunities support students’ educational and sporting futures.

  • Cohort Size: A Level PE – 240; Vocational Sport – 257
  • Staff: 11 teaching staff; 8 additional sports coaches
  • Management: Curriculum Manager of A Level PE; Curriculum Manager of Vocational Sport
  • Exam boards: A Level PE – OCR; Vocational Cambridge Technical Level 3 – OCR
  • Facilities: 2 Sports Halls; 3 onsite football pitches; 1 hockey pitch; 1 rugby pitch; Multi-Gym; 5 subject classrooms
Day to Day/Learning and Teaching Expectations
  • A full-time teacher will have 22.5 hours per week contact with students, split over 5 teaching groups (15 periods) with 5 additional periods for preparation and marking.
  • Tuesday departmental meetings / all-staff CPD after college, finishing at 5:20pm.
  • Attendance at whole-college events (open evenings, parent evenings, interview day, enrolment and briefings) as required.
  • Common resources shared within departments; opportunities for professional development and delivery of extracurricular clubs and wellbeing activities.
