The East Asia Section of the Bodleian Libraries offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated, and creative individual to serve as the Subject Librarian (Chinese and Korean Studies). The role supports world-class research and teaching in Chinese and Korean Studies within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Responsibilities include developing electronic and print collections, managing online research guides, liaising with faculty and students, promoting information and digital literacies, and managing collections. You will oversee the KB Chen China Centre Library, line-manage a small team, and contribute to the strategic development of services and collections in the East Asia Section. This is a permanent, full-time position, working 37.5 hours weekly, with no remote work permitted.
You should possess excellent knowledge of Chinese (written and spoken), including classical Chinese, a working knowledge of Korean, and experience with print and electronic resources relevant to Chinese and Korean academic studies. Practical experience in library work within an academic environment is essential. An understanding of researcher and student information needs, scholarly communication patterns, and a professional library qualification is desirable.
