Overview

Subject Lead - Sociology
Location: Southampton
Start Date: January 2026
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Role
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR2 (dependent on experience)

We are working with a rapidly improving secondary school in Southampton to appoint a passionate and experienced Subject Lead for Sociology. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious educator to lead and shape the Sociology department within a supportive and forward-thinking school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Sociology department with a clear vision for progress and excellence
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging Sociology lessons at Key Stage 4
  • Support curriculum development, assessment strategies, and resource planning
  • Monitor and drive student outcomes and progress within the subject area
  • Provide mentoring and support for colleagues where appropriate
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align departmental goals with the wider school strategy
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Extensive experience teaching Sociology at KS4
  • Proven ability to raise achievement and deliver strong classroom outcomes
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • A passion for Sociology and the ability to inspire both students and colleagues
  • The ability to also teach RE at KS3 would be highly beneficial.
