Permanent | Up to £70,000 + Living away allowance (if not based locally)

A leading industrial EPC contractor is seeking a Subcontracts Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial delivery team on a £115m+ capital project based in Hull. This is a flagship infrastructure programme at a large chemical processing facility, forming part of a multi-year Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract that includes the delivery of a new high-performance production line.

This is a site-based role, offering long-term progression within a high-performing commercial team, responsible for managing a wide range of specialist subcontract works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Subcontract Management: Oversee the full commercial lifecycle of subcontract packages – from award and mobilisation through to final account – across disciplines such as steelwork, mechanical pipework, electrical systems, and insulation.
  • Valuations & Payments: Conduct and certify subcontractor valuations, ensuring compliance with payment terms, contract timelines, and accurate cost reporting.
  • Cost Control & Reporting: Prepare and maintain weekly cost ledgers, accruals, and forecasting using systems such as SAP and Power BI; ensure accurate financial reporting to support project controls and month-end processes.
  • Change Control: Lead and support the administration of change management processes, including assessment of variations, issuing Compensation Event Quotations (CEQs), and supporting contractual notifications.
  • Commercial Risk & Performance Monitoring: Monitor commercial risk, prepare best/worst/most-likely scenario assessments, and drive proactive margin protection strategies.
  • Progress & Stakeholder Management: Attend subcontractor meetings, track deliverables and performance, and liaise effectively with site, procurement, and client teams to ensure commercial alignment.
  • Contract Compliance: Ensure full understanding of subcontract terms and deliverables, including NEC4 Option B obligations and adherence to NAECI Agreement requirements.
  • Support to Main Contract Activities: Provide data for inclusion in main contract applications, assist with client communications, and support head contract reporting.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Proven experience delivering subcontract management: on large-scale construction or infrastructure projects (ideally EPC or industrial projects).
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC4 Option B: (Bill of Quantities / Remeasure) contracts and their application in live project environments.
  • Familiarity with NAECI conditions: including site-based delivery structures and associated commercial processes.
  • Technical understanding: Standard Methods of Measurement (e.g., SMM7, NRM2) and the ability to remeasure BOQs confidently.
  • System Proficiency: Hands-on experience using SAP and Power BI to track and analyse cost data and inform project decision-making.
  • Commercial Acumen & Communication Skills: Confident in challenging and negotiating with subcontractors, with the ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical and Detail-Oriented: Able to produce commercial reports, assess risk, and maintain rigorous cost control under pressure.
  • Salary up to £70,000 per annum
  • Living away allowance (if not based locally)
  • Plus additional benefits (buy/sell holidays, healthy pension contribution, private healthcare etc)
