Job summary

First Recruitment Group seeks a Construction Subcontract Engineer for a contract role in the North West England energy sector. You will report to the Subcontract Manager and oversee subcontract administration, cost control, and forecasting across mechanical, buildings, and E&I works packages.

Qualifications

• Experience on large construction projects, onshore mandatory.
• Ability to engage and negotiate effectively with subcontractors and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Subcontract Administration procedures are implemented and followed by Subcontractors.
• Initiate letters/notices to Subcontractors and respond to communications.
• Monitor Subcontractor performance and review progress payments.
• Support in identifying variations/claims affecting programme and forecast.
• Analyse Site queries/instructions to determine cost impact and lead price negotiations.

Take the Lead on Major Energy Construction Projects with a Key Commercial Management Role!

Our Client has a requirement for a Construction Subcontract Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in North West England.

Role Purpose:

• Report to the Subcontract Manager and support the development, management and improvement of subcontract scopes throughout the engineering and development phases of major energy infrastructure projects.
• Ensure effective subcontract administration and commercial management across Mechanical, Buildings, and E&I works packages.
• Support project delivery through proactive cost control, change management, forecasting and subcontractor performance monitoring.

Job Role Responsibilities:

• Ensure the procedure of Subcontract Administration is implemented and followed by Subcontractors.
• Initiate letters and notices to Subcontractors as needed and ensure that letters and notices from Subcontractors are appropriately replied to.
• Monitor Subcontractor performance.
• Review and validate progress payments submitted by Subcontractors.
• Provide support to the project management team in identifying variations and/or claims with implications on project programme and forecasts, including delays and costs.
• Analyse Site Technical Queries, Site Instructions and Deviation Requests to determine cost impact and lead negotiations with Subcontractors for price alignment.
• Ensure extra works, new unit prices, claims, back charges, liquidated damages and subcontract close-out activities are processed in accordance with relevant procedures.
• Participate actively in change management and forecast analysis.
• Ensure the issuance of Completion Certificates.
• Ensure the configuration of contracts and price lists within the Work Progress Management System and maintain revisions accordingly.
• Provide guidance to Subcontractors on the correct submission of Work Progress (WP), New Prices (NP) and Order Changes (CWO).
• Support Subcontractors in submitting back-up documentation accompanying WP, NP and CWO submissions.
• Check and inform the Subcontract Manager on the coherence between physical and economic progress.
• Execute forecast analysis activities.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor or in a similar commercial/contracts role within the Oil & Gas or Energy sectors.
• Experience on large construction projects.
• Onshore project experience is mandatory.
• Candidates with both onshore and offshore experience are welcome.
• Strong understanding of subcontract administration and commercial management processes.
• Experience managing variations, claims, progress payments and forecasting activities.
• Ability to engage and negotiate effectively with subcontractors and project stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills.
