Location: Manchester | Department: Sales & Marketing


Luxfer MEL Technologies (LMT), a long-established leader in the manufacturing and supply of highly engineered magnesium alloy materials, is expanding its team in the Elektron Finished Parts division. We're on the lookout for a driven, innovative, and results-oriented Subcontract Buyer to help us accelerate growth and deliver exceptional value across critical industries like Defence, Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Automotive, and more.


About the Role: Subcontract Buyer

As the Subcontract Buyer for Elektron Finished Parts, you’ll be at the wheel of delivering top-line growth and ensuring the timely and efficient fulfilment of customer programmes. Working with a dynamic team, you'll play a key role in driving the adoption of magnesium alloys in Aerospace, Automotive, and Industrial Applications, overseeing procurement and subcontractor management to deliver exceptional results.

Your Main Responsibilities: Subcontract Buyer

  • Lead the development of the subcontractor network to support the growth of EFP to $20m+ within 5 years
  • Work with the Commercial team to evaluate and manage customer programmes
  • Ensure timely and full delivery of accepted programmes
  • Lead customer communications and keep projects on track
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring quality and cost targets are met
  • Manage contracts and mitigate risks by aligning them with customer contracts
  • Provide leadership, drive innovation, and maintain high standards of quality and customer satisfaction

Essential Skills & Experience: Subcontract Buyer

  • Proven experience managing multiple, complex, multi-stakeholder programmes
  • Direct experience in external customer relations
  • Expertise in project planning (Aerospace/Automotive experience preferred)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and evaluate commercial contracts (desirable)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Procurement expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Magnesium alloy materials & enabling technologies knowledge is a plus
