Sub Agent (Contract) - UK Civil Business Unit

Role
We are recruiting for a Freelance SubAgent to join our £100m+ civil engineering scheme at York Central. The scheme involves the design and construction of bridges, highways, retaining walls, new railway sections, utilities network, drainage works, and temporary car parks. The primary role is to support the Agent/Project Manager in managing the design and/or construction of the works, including implementing Sisk quality procedures and managing health, safety, and environmental matters, all to meet programme, specification, and budget targets.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a key member of the project management team, delivering Health, Safety, and Environmental presentations. This includes project inductions, toolbox talks, and team briefings, and providing input on presentation content. Manage, supervise, and mentor graduate, site, and section engineers to ensure high levels of engineering control and accurate project records. Complete health and safety inspections and maintain daily diaries. Implement Sisk quality control processes, including preparing and reviewing Inspection & Test Plans. Display advanced knowledge of key packages such as concrete, drainage, steelwork, and brickwork. Prepare and review method statements and risk assessments.

You should have a good understanding of project specifications, especially tolerances for structural elements. Control components of the SISK Non-Conformance procedure, create and close out Non-Conformances, understand the costs of defects and remedial works, and work actively to close NCRs promptly. Be competent in issuing permits to break ground. Identify missing information and demonstrate excellent knowledge of the RFI process. Use internal SISK resources and external sources like IHS online to gather information. Prepare and monitor 4-weekly construction programmes or assist the project planner in updating them.

Experience & Skills
  • Fully competent in understanding risk controls for underground services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of current H&S legislation, Microsoft Office, and CAD
  • Significant experience in design management processes
  • Experience managing temporary works, lifting operations, and quality management procedures
  • Previous experience managing teams of engineers at various levels
