Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Sub Agent to work on the National Grid HWUP Project in Waltham, London. The role leads construction and installation with a strong emphasis on safety, planning, and effective communication across teams.

Ideal candidates hold an HNC/HND or a Civil Engineering degree and have experience on large civil projects. Substation exposure is a plus; UK work rights are assumed.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent considered.
• Experience on large civil engineering projects preferred.
• Knowledge of safety and environmental legislation.
• Ability to read drawings and work to a programme.
• Experience leading self-delivered projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide site leadership for construction and installation; promote Health & Safety with Project Manager.
• Produce H&S Plans, Risk Assessments, Method Statements and briefings; update regularly.
• Ensure workplaces have effective safety systems and supervision.
• Ensure project personnel have required experience and training.
• Organise and lead pre-construction meetings with supply chain.
• Attend weekly site meetings for safety, progress and costs.

A day in the life of a Murphy Sub Agent

• Providing site-based leadership for all construction and installation operations; promoting Health & Safety management, construction best practice and management of site construction resources in close liaison with the Project Manager.
• Produce Construction Phase Plans (H&S Plans), Risk Assessments, Work Package Plans (Method Statements) and Task Briefings in line with Murphy procedures. Ensure these are updated on a regular basis and their requirements are communicated and understood by all project personnel and any others who may be affected.
• Ensure workplaces under their control have effective systems, arrangements and supervision for providing a safe workplace.
• Ensure all project personnel have the necessary experience, training and knowledge to carry out the duties allocated to them.
• Organise and lead pre-construction meetings with supply chain to ensure works are fit-to-start.
• Attend and contribute to weekly meetings with site team regarding safety, progress, expenditure, costs and programme.
• Lead and record subcontractor weekly progress meeting, tracking KPI’s, safety performance, deliverables, commercial actions.
• Participate in, and positively promote, the Murphy Culture Development Culture (leading to Zero Harm).
• Establish close working relationship with site supervision to ensure cost-effective use of labour and plant.
• Lead weekly 4WLA sessions with project delivery team.
• Senior Site Agent to have an engineering background with minimum of HNC/HND in Civil Engineering.
• Experience working on substations is preferable but not essential.
• Provide technical support project delivery team (engineering and site supervision teams).
• Establish and maintain close working relationship with buying department to ensure compliant advantageous procurement terms.
• Develop project delivery sequencing and programme with Project Manager.
• Package Senior Site Agent will be responsible for will predominantly be Formwork Reinforced Concrete
• (FRC), Steel Frame and Cladding and fit-out of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Hall.

• HNC/HND/ Degree Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Proven experience in large civil engineering projects. Knowledge of company policy and procedures including safety and environment related issues
• Ability to produce, implement and manage safe systems of work for construction procedures. Successful experience as a section / trades foreman.
• Ability and confidence to communicate and present to Top Level Management, Senior level clients and public.
• Demonstration of knowledge and practical application of the set up and day to day running of a Construction site.
• An understanding of the commercial issues in undertaking a large scale construction project. Experience in leading self-delivered projects.
• Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines.
• Excellent knowledge of current civil engineering legislation as well as Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
• Able to read drawings and construct to them, work to a programme and keep written (and preferably electronic) records.
