Job summary

Ulster University in Belfast is seeking a Studio Technician (Screen and Media) to support the CoSTAR Screen Lab. The role focuses on virtual production development and training delivery within the School of Communication and Media.

You will work with academics and industry partners to advance LED Volumes, camera tracking and Unreal Engine workflows, supporting staff, students and CPD initiatives. This fixed-term post runs until 30 March 2029 and requires full-time commitment.

Qualifications

  • HNC or equivalent (or higher) in Screen/Media or related discipline.
  • Experience in Virtual Production pipelines, LED Volumes and Camera tracking.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.

Responsibilities

  • Support research and development activities in virtual production.
  • Assist with design and delivery of virtual production training courses.
  • Provide technical support to staff, students and industry CPD.

THE ROLE

The postholder will support research and development activities, working in teams with academic researchers and industry. They will have a critical role to play in supporting the technical development and rapid adoption of technologies and processes in virtual production in the screen industries in Northern Ireland, and they will be intrinsically involved in the design and delivery of virtual production training courses, providing technical support to staff, students and continuing professional development with industry.

ABOUT YOU
  • 1. You will hold an HNC or equivalent/or higher level in Screen, Media, or a related discipline. Candidates without the relevant academic qualification who have relevant experience will also be considered.
  • 2. You will have expertise and experience in Virtual Production pipelines, with a focus on LED Volumes and Camera tracking.
  • 3. You will have an understanding of and specialist operational experience in Unreal Engine.
