You will be part of a great team, turning your passion into purpose.

The role

The School of Architecture and Planning at London South Bank University is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Studio Practitioner (Teaching & Scholarship) to join our vibrant academic community.

This is an exciting opportunity for an architect and educator to contribute to our distinctive studio culture through the delivery of design-led teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Studio Practitioners play an important role in enriching the student experience by bringing contemporary professional practice, industry insight and real-world perspectives into architectural education.

Working closely with course teams, you will lead and support design studio teaching, helping students to develop creative, technical and professional skills while responding to complex challenges within the built environment. Through design tutorials, workshops, lectures, field trips and reviews, you will support students in developing innovative and thoughtful design proposals informed by current architectural practice and emerging societal, environmental and technological challenges.

The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the School's design studio culture, supporting curriculum delivery and enhancement while fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. You will also play an important role in preparing students for professional practice through your understanding of the architectural profession, contemporary design methodologies and industry expectations.

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring a strong design portfolio and contemporary professional expertise, and who are enthusiastic about supporting the development of future architects through creative, practice-informed teaching and mentoring.

As a leading Higher Education Institution LSBU offers staff a highly competitive benefits package including holiday entitlement starting at 35 days per annum, professional development opportunities and flexible working. Full details on the range of benefits we offer can be found here.

What you will bring

  • Possess experience of teaching and supporting learning within an undergraduate or postgraduate architecture studio environment.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to design studio pedagogy and student-centred learning.
  • Bring current or recent architectural practice experience and an understanding of contemporary industry challenges and opportunities.
  • Have the ability to support students in developing creative, technically informed and socially responsive design proposals.
  • Demonstrate strong visual, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have experience of delivering design tutorials, workshops, critiques, reviews and related teaching activities.
  • Be committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables students to achieve their full potential.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary architectural practice, including sustainability, building technology, professional practice and design processes.
  • Have the ability to inspire and mentor students while supporting their academic and professional development.
  • Show a commitment to continuous professional development and engagement with contemporary architectural discourse and practice.
  • Be willing to contribute to student recruitment, outreach, exhibitions, field trips and other activities that support the School community.

In addition to your teaching and learning experience, you will demonstrate a passion for architectural design education and a commitment to delivering an outstanding and inclusive student experience. We welcome applications from candidates who actively engage in architectural practice and who are able to bring contemporary professional expertise into the design studio.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the education of future architects through a vibrant studio culture that values creativity, critical thinking, experimentation and professional relevance. The successful candidate will identify strongly with architectural design practice and will be enthusiastic about sharing their professional knowledge, experience and design approach with students.

This post is open on a part-time, permanent basis. Applications are encouraged from candidates with a strong background in architectural practice and design studio teaching.
