Job description

Our global motorcycle manufacturing client is urgently looking to fill the following role:

Studio Engineer Motorcycles : Market Rate (Inside IR35) : Leicestershire : 3-6 Months (potential to extend)
Job Requirement

The role of Studio Engineer is tailored to a creative engineer with high-quality design skills. Working amongst a diverse team spanning the UK and overseas locations, you will be influential in the creative stages of the development of new motorcycles. With strong 3D digital modelling experience and a solid understanding of automotive engineering/model engineering, you will build and develop the digital models needed to deliver. Your main goal will be solving specific design problems and working on whole system designs; flair, aesthetic judgment, and creativity are therefore essential.

Key Responsibilities

You will work with the Product Strategy and Concept team, along with designers from the Industrial Design team, to generate and present new product concept ideas to senior management. This will enable product planning to react quickly and develop robust product specifications before a project is handed over to the engineering design team for detailed work.

Role Responsibilities
  • Translating strategic and functional objectives into technical requirements
  • Developing and enhancing existing methods and processes
  • Establishing target BOM and investment prices for new vehicle programmes
  • Identifying cost reduction and mass saving opportunities
  • Conducting technical benchmarking and analysis of competitive vehicles
  • Supporting the Studio Design Team to deliver surfaces that reflect the design intent while integrating engineering constraints
  • Working with Physical Modelling and Engineering teams to develop 3D digital model data for presentation models and prototypes
  • Generating high integrity data, ideally to defined A-class standards suitable for transfer into other CAD systems (primarily Creo)
  • Producing parametric models natively in Creo
Skills Required
  • At least three years experience in automotive OEM or independent studio working with OEM
  • Experience in parametric solid modelling (Creo) to a high standard
  • A strong degree of engineering experience
  • Proven record of bringing motorcycle, scooter, or automotive digital models to styling sign-off (advantageous)
  • Experience outputting digital models via rapid prototyping (SLS, SLA, etc.)
  • Experience in clay/foam milling is a plus
  • A passion for motorcycles and familiarity with the motorcycle market
  • Ability to work on various components simultaneously, balancing workload and priorities
  • Proactive attitude, initiative, and confidence to engage actively and work hands-on
Skills Preferred
  • Experience in concept modelling and A-class modelling
  • Experience in 3D scanning and surfacing scan data (Alias)
