This position reports to: LPG Chemicals & Refining Market Segment Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this newly created role, you will have the opportunity to spearhead the delivery of early Studies across all our target market segments. You will build a team of experts, leveraging ABB's extensive capacity and expertise in electrical, automation, telecommunications, and digital solutions. Your work will bridge engineering & project execution, solutions & tech development, business development, and sales, addressing the challenges and opportunities in the energy industry.

The work model for this role is hybrid from our St Neots location. #LI-hybrid

This role contributes to the Energy Industries business in the UK and is mainly accountable for:

  1. Contributing to identifying and defining technical challenges and opportunities, and scoping feasibility, concept, and design studies.
  2. Undertaking studies and consulting assignments designing solutions, guiding projects from feasibility to final investment decisions.
  3. Advising on systems and technologies crucial for the energy transition, such as hydrogen, offshore wind, and renewable integration.
  4. Supporting sales and marketing teams in customer and project pursuits.
  5. Leading and sharing knowledge within the team, supporting junior members.
  6. Developing processes and procedures for effective study delivery.
  7. Managing resourcing of studies and liaising with related teams.
  8. Providing technical oversight of the study portfolio.
  9. Working closely with sales and capture teams to pursue opportunities and align strategies.
  10. Leading recruitment to grow team capacity and skills.
Qualifications for the role
  • Experience in project engineering and design, especially in feasibility, concept, and select phases.
  • Technical insight in electrical, controls, chemical, or systems engineering disciplines.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude, eager to tackle new challenges.
  • Experience or domain expertise in renewable energy systems, such as offshore wind, hydrogen, or carbon capture is advantageous.
  • Systems thinking and experience with systems engineering methodology.
  • Proven leadership in technical teams, with collaboration across disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Interest and understanding of energy market changes and new technologies.
  • Commercial awareness with experience in techno-economic evaluations.
