Welfare Advisor to Students within Higher Education
London, Fulltime & Permanent Role
Hybrid Working (2 days working from home)
Monday – Friday 8.30-5pm & 9-5.30pm & 9.30-6pm

About our role:

As Student Welfare Advisor, you will have the knowledge and ability to provide advice, guidance, and information on personal, welfare, and disability-related issues to students at each stage of their learner journey. Your role will also involve advising Faculty and Business Support teams on supporting students to overcome personal barriers to learning, working closely with our partner universities to provide a structured support system in line with our policies.

This role is Monday to Friday during business hours, with flexibility to cover up to 6 pm once or twice per week.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Delivering student welfare services, including one-to-one appointments, workshops, events, accommodation advice, funding/financial advice, and student health support (within policies).
  2. Being a member of the safeguarding team, assessing risks, and delivering staff training.
  3. Ensuring access to external support services such as counselling and disability support, and signposting students to external agencies when appropriate.
  4. Assessing and making safeguarding referrals, providing support, and offering emergency assistance to students in distress.
Candidate requirements:
  1. Ability to provide credible guidance and support to academic and professional services colleagues on sensitive student issues such as mental health, safeguarding, and urgent incidents.
  2. Proven experience in developing and implementing inclusive policies and practices.
  3. Experience in higher education is preferred but not essential.
  4. Knowledge of legislation related to child protection, adult at risk, prevent, benefits, and housing is advantageous.
  5. Up-to-date understanding of inclusion, disability, and diversity frameworks.
