Our mission is to provide outstanding welfare and wellbeing support which enables students to learn and progress successfully at university. To enable this, we offer a range of assessment-based interventions, including advice and guidance on student life issues, mental health and psychological support, individual action plans, online resources, and referral/liaison - always keeping the whole student community at the heart of what we do.

This key role will primarily involve working with students, providing assessments and short-term solution-focused interventions to help them manage challenges, recover, support themselves, and participate fully in student life. The key responsibilities for the role include:

  1. Providing an immediate response to mental health crises and concerns.
  2. Facilitating referrals and ongoing liaison with university departments, external and statutory services including the local Primary Care Network, Community Mental Health/Home Treatment/Early Intervention teams, and GP surgeries to ensure a supportive and joined-up approach to student support and mental health.
  3. Contributing to proactive interventions as part of the Student Support multi-disciplinary team.
  4. Providing advice and training for staff on mental health in a university environment.
  5. Facilitating group sessions and contributing to the ongoing development of self-help resources.
  6. Participating in university partnership initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience of working as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or equivalent core profession, with experience working with people with severe and enduring mental health issues. Alongside these key skills, you will have a positive, compassionate, and flexible approach. We are looking for candidates who have the following skills/experience:

  • Substantial experience of completing mental health biopsychosocial assessments, care planning and coordinating, assessing and managing risk, and responding to immediate crises.
  • Experience of active contributions to service development initiatives.
  • Ability to adapt to a role in a university setting, flexibly supporting the multi-disciplinary team approach to enable students to academically progress.
  • Experience of, and commitment to, working collaboratively and positively in a team.
  • Ability to remain calm and deal sensitively and effectively with difficult situations in a high-demand environment.

This post is offered on a full-time, 37.5-hour a week, permanent contract working across Monday-Friday based at Penryn Campus. As an employer of choice, we can offer the successful candidate for this role a range of benefits, including:

  • Employer Pension Contribution up to 10%.
  • 28 days + 8 days bank holiday.
  • Life Assurance.

  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity Pay.
  • Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme (Tusker).
  • Salary Sacrifice Cycle Scheme.

  • Vivup Lifestyle Discounts.

Alongside these benefits, we offer a first-class working environment across our campuses with all the facilities you would expect from working across two leading Universities. Falmouth Exeter Plus welcomes and encourages job applications from people of all identities and backgrounds, particularly those under-represented and/or marginalised, as it is important we have a diverse range of candidates to consider.
