Job summary

Harris Academy Rainham seeks a Teaching Assistant to support individuals and groups in the SARP, assisting with learning in the classroom and attending to students' personal needs including welfare matters. Salary £24,543–£24,894 for 36 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, with a 08:00-16:00 Mon-Thu and 08:00-14:30 Fri schedule.

Role involves supervising students, developing resources, tracking progress, and supporting behaviour management.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of SEND and learning barriers.
• Knowledge of strategies for working with young people with challenging behaviours.
• Awareness of social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
• Health and Safety awareness in the workplace.
• Experience of working directly with young people in an educational setting.
• Experience building positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Experience managing own workload and deadlines.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English with strong interpersonal skills.
• Good administrative and organisational abilities.
• Ability to engage, motivate and interest children.
• Ability to work with colleagues across levels of responsibility.
• ICT skills with Microsoft packages and updating records/databases.
• Ability to use own initiative and exercise good judgement unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Supervising and supporting identified students in 1:1, group or whole class settings.
• Assisting in developing resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies.
• Evaluating students' progress and providing feedback on achievements and needs.
• Leading small group sessions and interventions as appropriate.
• Attending to students' personal needs as required.
• Supporting with behaviour management.
• Undertaking learning activities and adjusting activities to achieve learning goals.
• Supervising students during breaks and lunchtimes.
• Supporting learning and development in line with local and national strategies.
• Preparing and maintaining classroom resources and displaying student work.
• Maintaining records and reporting information as directed.
• Establishing positive relationships with parents/carers.
• Providing administrative support as required.
• Accompanying staff and students on visits, trips and off-site activities.
