Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Academic Support Services and Retention, the Student Support Coach carries out the department’s mission of promoting academic, personal, and professional growth for the student population at Regis. Specifically, the Student Support Coach will work with students from the Associate Degree in Nursing Program at Regis. The Student Support Coach develops and implements holistic programming, including academic, emotional, and social supports, specifically supporting our students in the Associate Degree program for Nursing. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, 11-month position.

Essential Functions

  • Supports the varied and unique needs of students within the Associate Degree program for Nursing cohort via individual and group meetings.
  • Provides a highly supportive, culturally responsive, and engaging environment for students.
  • Proactively outreaches to and meets with students at key times for continuous needs assessment and connection to appropriate resources.
  • Engages intentionally with faculty and works to provide learning strategies, time management, and first year transition programming.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff (e.g., academic departments, athletics, and special student populations), to create programming that supports student learning within those areas.
  • Creates and implements learning communities and study groups.
  • Works closely with Academic Advising, specifically the Assistant Direct of Advising, to provide general advising support for the students in the Associate Degree program for Nursing.
  • Creates and maintains academic plans for students on academic standing.
  • Collects data on coaching and programming through recordkeeping in Starfish.
  • Monitors and responds to Starfish referrals and flags.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings and other departmental meetings as requested.

Other Duties

  • Performs additional duties to contribute toward effective implementation of departmental programs and services as assigned.
  • Participates in institutional committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Works with other staff to develop content for the departmental website and ensures that the site is accurate and up to date.
  • Assumes other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • MA/MS degree in education, counseling, psychology or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with adult learners a plus.
  • Professional judgment and ability to refer students to other College resources, services, or advising as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and respectfully in a complex and diverse academic environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively and communicate clearly, orally, and in writing with students, faculty and staff
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to be innovative, take intellectual risk, and learn from mistakes
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform will under pressure.
  • Extensive knowledge of academic support services in a diverse higher education community.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop academic support programs supportive of an increasingly mobile and technology enhanced environment.
  • Ability to uphold the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
  • Strong technology skills including mastery of MS Word, Excel, OneDrive, and Zoom. Experience with Starfish, Brainfuse, and Ellucian Colleague a plus.
  • Thorough organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Work is normally performed in a typical office work environment.
  • May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines. There will be regular interruptions to assist students, visitors and staff.
  • May require some lifting of equipment and/or boxes of supplies.
  • Position is based on the Regis campus in Weston; should be comfortable working in a remote environment, as needed, to maintain outreach.
  • Hours are non-traditional as the position supports students in day and evening cohorts.
