Position:

The Role:

The Student Success Tutor plays a critical role in ensuring that students receive personalised guidance and support throughout their academic journey. This role is designed to help students achieve their academic goals through proactive coaching and support. The Student Success Tutor will create individualised strategies and plans, working closely with students to set and track academic goals, overcome barriers to success, and engage with resources. The role contributes directly to improving retention and enhancing the overall student experience through close collaboration with academic departments and student support teams.

Responsibilities include :

  • Provide personalised, 1 to 1 or group academic support for students in achieving their academic goals.
  • Build a relationship with students, to develop relevant individualised personal support and development plans.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, ensuring they feel heard, supported, and empowered in their educational journey.
  • Collaborate with students to define specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals (SMART goals) and track progress toward these goals through regular check-ins and adapt plans as necessary.
  • Support students in understanding course material and assignments.
  • Identify and support at-risk students through early intervention, including addressing academic and personal issues that may impact retention.
  • Use data to identify students at risk of disengagement (e.g. low attendance) or academic decline. Implement early intervention strategies to improve retention, such as proactive outreach, tailored action plans, and regular follow-up.

Requirements:

Essential :

  • An experienced and qualified educator with a background in Further/Higher Education (F/HE) or Secondary Education.
  • Proven expertise in effective learning, teaching, and assessment strategies that drive student success.
  • Holds or working towards a recognised teaching qualification, such as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), or an equivalent credential.
  • Deeply committed to educational excellence and student development, with a strong focus on supporting learners from diverse backgrounds (widening participation).
  • Cultural Competency: Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds, respecting different cultural perspectives and creating an inclusive coaching environment.
  • Knowledge of awarding body regulations and the ability to work within these
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and associated principles (the Prevent agenda etc.)

Desirable :

  • Experience working in a student support, pastoral, or academic advisory role within higher or further education.
  • Experience working directly with creative or performing arts students, ideally within a music education environment.
  • Master’s degree in Business Management, Strategy, Organisational Behaviour, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Project Management, Accountancy, HRM, Supply Chain, Logistics, International Management.
