Job description

Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more

Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.

At Ormiston Latimer Academy, we believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive, in the classroom and beyond it. As Student Services Manager, you will take the strategic lead on pastoral support and safeguarding across the academy, acting as our Designated Safeguarding Lead and playing a pivotal role as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Working closely with the Principal, you will shape the systems and culture that keep students safe, engaged and supported to succeed - from behaviour, attendance and safeguarding to admissions, induction, work experience and post-16 destinations. You will lead a team dedicated to giving every student the guidance they need, and you will build the external relationships that bring extra support into the academy when it is needed most.

Why you?

You will have:

  • Experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead, or the training and readiness to take on this responsibility.
  • A track record of supporting pupils with emotional, behavioural or safeguarding needs, ideally within a secondary setting.
  • Experience of managing a team, with the confidence to lead performance and hold colleagues to high standards.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to build lasting relationships with external agencies, partners and families.
About the Academy

Located in Kensington & Chelsea, Ormiston Latimer Academy provides a caring environment based on integrity, mutual respect, and understanding. It seeks to reignite passion in education and aspiration. Each learner is treated as an individual and is supported to develop within an environment that develops a love of learning and the ability to create social and emotional skills fit for the world outside of education.

The main provision at Latimer is for secondary learners, but we have primary provision on site, along with a managed intervention centre and outreach service. Our learners are at risk of or have been excluded from mainstream settings. We serve the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We believe that success for our young people comes because of our specialist approach; we are interested in activities that develop all young people’s capabilities; their potential for employability; their ability to have successful healthy relationships; their ability to make safe life choices, enhancing their quality of life and the realisation of their aspirations.

Our approach considers our young people’s education experiences to date, their social-emotional health, their mental health, their family situation and experiences, and their special educational needs (SEN). We work closely with professionals, families, and other practitioners to affect change in our young people’s lives, ensuring our work is holistic and therefore creates success by any means for all our children. We are proud of the work that we do, and the environment of our school is caring supportive, and inclusive. We believe that through this approach we support our children, enhancing their quality of life and promoting the realisation of their aspirations.

Why work for Ormiston?

Our vision is to create a school system where every child thrives, regardless of background. Our people are at the heart of our approach - they are our greatest asset.

We exist to provide the best learning opportunities every day, in every school for every child. It is the people and teams in our Trust who make this a reality and ensure we have the greatest impact. If you join us at Ormiston, whatever your role, your work will have purpose and meaning.

Ormiston, where every member of staff enjoys…
  • The opportunity to build on the legacy of those who came before - being part of one of the longest standing Trusts, created with the sole purpose of enabling children and young people to thrive
  • Working for a Trust nationally recognised for its impact on disadvantaged children - a rewarding, stimulating career where staff are challenged to be the best they can be, for the pupils we are proud to serve
  • Being part of a team and community where you belong - being part of a well‑resourced and ambitious network of experts and professionals that work at the heart of communities
  • A supportive environment to grow your career - an extensive professional development programme, alongside flexible working arrangements and generous benefits

We value the contribution of every colleague and offer a range of benefits designed to support your career, wellbeing and work‑life balance. Benefits include automatic pay progression, a generous pension scheme, wellbeing support, exclusive discounts, Blue Light Card access and our cycle‑to‑work scheme.
