Job summary

GBS is recruiting a Student Engagement Officer in Manchester (onsite). You will manage the Student Representative system, coordinate events and focus groups, and provide training for partnerships.

The role involves handling student data, supporting communications, and reporting against KPIs, with occasional after-hours work. This permanent full-time position requires strong written skills, understanding of diverse student needs, and willingness to travel to GBS campuses as needed.

  • Coordinate Student Representative system and training across partnerships.
  • Secretarial support for Student Representative Committees.
  • Produce and publish student engagement materials and reports.
  • Maintain records and report on KPIs for student engagement.

Type of Contract: Permanent - Full Time

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000

The Role:

The Student Engagement Officer helps deliver GBS's student participation in a range of educational, professional and extra-curricular activities across GBS. They provide day to day management of the Student Representative system for all GBS collaborative programmes. They arrange, attend and minute all Student Representative meetings and provide logistics for Partnership Student Focus groups across all programmes.

The role also requires some occasional flexibility for work outside of normal hours which can include late evenings and weekend work, to meet service needs.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship!

What the Role Involves:

  • To work at the direction of the Student Engagement Manager and Dean of Students to assist with student events such as Partnership Focus Groups, Student Voice Roadshows, Celebrating Your Success Events, Wellbeing Events and other activities allied with the Student Activities calendar.
  • To work with Student Success Tutors (SSTs) in the election of Student Representatives.
  • To deliver Student Representative training for all partnerships.
  • To act as secretary, as required, to the Student Representative Committees.
  • To support academic student consultation activities.
  • To assist Student Representatives to write and submit the external and internal Student Written Submissions (SWS).
  • To work with our Communications Manager to coordinate material for the publication of student engagement and voice materials such as the GBS Life Student Newsletter.
  • To maintain appropriate records of actions and interventions so as to support timely and accurate report of student engagement activities against key performance indicators.

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • Excellent written skills with experience of report writing.
  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive student data.
  • Creativity in producing student facing documents and communication.
  • Ability to compile, analyse and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data to incorporate into reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with students and staff at all levels, including senior colleagues at GBS and beyond.
  • Ability to work under own initiative to plan, prioritise and organise own workload, including working to tight deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Have a willingness to develop professionally and maintain continuous professional development, ensuring familiarity with sector and institutional level developments which may impact upon the work of the team.
  • Willing to travel to GBS campuses, as appropriate.

Desirable:

  • Experience of committee servicing.
  • Experience of working within Higher Education (HE).
  • Understanding of current issues within the HE sector.
