Job summary

Gedu in Manchester is seeking a Student Engagement Officer to support student participation across education, professional and extracurricular activities and to manage the Student Representative system.

The role requires strong written skills, data handling, and ability to work independently, with some occasional out-of-hours work; there are opportunities for professional development and a range of staff benefits.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written skills with experience of report writing.
  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive student data.
  • Creativity in producing student facing documents and communication.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with students and staff at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • To work under the direction of the Student Engagement Manager and Dean of Students to assist with student events such as Partnership Focus Groups, Student Voice Roadshows, Celebrating Your Success Events, Wellbeing Events and other activities allied with the Student Activities calendar.
  • To work with Student Success Tutors in the election of Student Representatives.
  • To deliver Student Representative training for all partnerships.
  • To act as secretary, as required, to the Student Representative Committees.
  • To support academic student consultation activities.
  • To assist Student Representatives to write and submit the external and internal Student Written Submissions (SWS).
  • To coordinate material for the publication of student engagement and voice materials such as the GBS Life Student Newsletter.
  • To maintain appropriate records of actions and interventions so as to support timely and accurate report of student engagement activities against KPIs.

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000

The Role:

The Student Engagement Officer helps deliver GBS's student participation in a range of educational, professional and extra-curricular activities across GBS. They provide day to day management of the Student Representative system for all GBS collaborative programmes. They arrange, attend and minute all Student Representative meetings and provide logistics for Partnership Student Focus groups across all programmes.

The role also requires some occasional flexibility for work outside of normal hours which can include late evenings and weekend work, to meet service needs.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship!

What the Role Involves:

What We're Looking For:
Essential:
  • Excellent written skills with experience of report writing.
  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive student data.
  • Creativity in producing student facing documents and communication.
  • Ability to compile, analyse and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data to incorporate into reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with students and staff at all levels, including senior colleagues at GBS and beyond.
  • Ability to work under own initiative to plan, prioritise and organise own workload, including working to tight deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Have a willingness to develop professionally and maintain continuous professional development, ensuring familiarity with sector and institutional level developments which may impact upon the work of the team.
  • Willing to travel to GBS campuses, as appropriate.
Desirable:
  • Experience of committee servicing.
  • Experience of working within Higher Education (HE).
  • Understanding of current issues within the HE sector.
