Ortus Recruitment Ltd is seeking a dedicated Student Engagement Assistant for a partnered primary school in Upper Sydenham. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4pm, with immediate start.

You will support the head teacher and SEN students, delivering one-to-one and small-group assistance to maximise learning while fostering a safe, inclusive classroom environment. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, patient and flexible, capable of adapting to different behaviours and building

Qualifications

• Experience working 1:1 or in groups with children.
• Experience with children with SEN and disabilities.
• Genuine passion for working with children.
• Flexible and adaptable to different environments and behaviours.
• Strong interpersonal communication with teachers, children and parents.
• Sensitivity, patience, empathy and problem-solving skills.

Ortus recruitment are looking for a Student Engagement Assistant to support the head teacher and the children in the classroom, especially those with special educational needs and disabilities. If you are interested in this position, then please read on.

About the Role:

• As a Student Engagement Assistant, you will aid the teachers in using their creativity to maximise students’ learning and development while tailoring instruction to their individual requirements.
• As a special education needs teaching assistant, you will work with a variety of students, particularly one‑on‑one sessions with SEN students, providing them with individualised support and assistance throughout the school day.

Requirements:

• Previous experience working 1:1 or in groups with children.
• Previous experience working with children with special educational needs and disabilities
• A genuine desire and passion for working with children.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to different environments and difficult behaviours.
• Good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create relationships with teachers, children and parents.
• Sensitivity, patience, empathy and problem-solving skills when it comes to handling difficult situations.
