University of Reading is, first and foremost, a diverse, inclusive, and supportive community of students, staff and alumni. The Student Communications Manager role provides a vital function in our busy communications team based in Student Services at the heart of White Knights campus.

We are looking for an exceptional communications professional to cover a 12 month maternity position to support the mission of Student Success and Engagement and Student Services to improve the experience for every student at Reading - You will share our passion for inclusivity and accessibility, and support our values in pursuit of excellence. Working alongside the Head of Student Communications and the Student Communications team we will manage the student channel portfolio and deliver communications to all current students from enrolment through to graduation.

You will have/be:

  • A confident digital user, you will have experience with content management and managing multi-channel campaigns
  • A passion for digital accessibility and ensuring our content and communications are relevant and accessible for all students.
  • An experienced manager of people, confident to lead a team of Student Life Content Creators to represent the student voice on our popular channels
  • Confident to deliver training and mentoring to our student team and to demonstrate confidence with public speaking and delivering presentations
  • Supporting Student Services and wider Marketing function on more complex or sensitive campaigns and messaging. You will also be available to support on crisis and emergency comms
  • Adopting a data driven approach to reviewing and planning content and marketing
  • Keen to build and maintain a beneficial network of stakeholders and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including representing the team at meetings and working groups and deliver concise and clear reports and presentations
  • Liaising with colleagues across the University, to develop ways of engaging groups of students and reaching underrepresented students through targeted marketing campaigns
