Job summary

The Saint John Henry Newman School in Stevenage is seeking to appoint a Pastoral Attendance & Safeguarding Support Coordinator to join our pastoral team. This permanent role is 32.5 hours per week, term time plus 1 INSET day, with a salary in the H7.19 - £33,199 FTE range (£24,458 pro rata).

Start between November 2026 and January 2027. You will manage a caseload, support attendance and EBSNA, and work with Attendance, Safeguarding, SEND, Wellbeing and Pastoral teams to ensure joined-up,

Qualifications

• Experience with secondary-aged students.
• Passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
• Understanding safeguarding and child protection and accurate recording.
• Ability to manage a caseload and maintain records.
• Strong communication with students, parents and professionals.

Responsibilities

• Manage an allocated caseload of students requiring targeted attendance, EBSNA or pastoral support.
• Work with students and parents to understand barriers to attendance and agree next steps.
• Monitor attendance and engagement and follow up concerns per school procedures.
• Support phased returns, reintegration plans and attendance interventions.
• Coordinate support between pastoral, safeguarding, SEND, wellbeing and curriculum teams.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions, communication and outcomes.
• Provide delegated safeguarding support under the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Record and escalate safeguarding concerns using CPOMS as required.
• Assist with visits and meetings involving external professionals.
