Student Adviser

Peterborough campus

ARU Students’ Union are looking to recruit a part-time Adviser to join our team, based on our Peterborough campus. In this role, you will provide information and support to students on a range of academic and welfare issues.

What you will be doing

  • Providing students with accurate and relevant guidance, information, advice and support, on a face-to face (in-person and online) basis as well as via telephone, e-mail and social media
  • Advocating on behalf of and representing students as required at formal and informal University meetings and hearings
  • Ensuring the Advice webpages are kept up to date and relevant
  • Proactively collating themes and evidence of current student issues to inform any necessary campaigning work for our future Vice President (ARU Peterborough) and Course Reps
  • Participating in casework review, peer mentoring and supervision meetings to ensure best practice.
  • Leading on advice engagement sessions to educate ARU Peterborough students on what the advice service offers.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in delivering advice, information and support
  • Experience of working with a non-judgemental focus with a range of clients
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of people both within and outside the University, including students, academics and senior management
  • Ability to self-reflect and review own practice independently and with other team members
  • Confidence to work independently on your own initiative

  • Awareness and understanding of the importance of professional boundaries
