Job description

CarmichaelUK are seeking an experienced Structures Foreman to join a long-term rail framework delivering complex structural works across the South West of England. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on varied, high-profile infrastructure packages with a Tier 1 contractor.

We re seeking a hands-on, technically capable foreman with a strong rail background, comfortable leading teams on steel strengthening, grit blasting, painting, masonry repair, reconstructions, and FRC works.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead day-to-day site delivery on structural packages within a live rail or civils environment

  • Supervise operatives, subcontractors, and ensure safe and efficient delivery of planned works

  • Carry out inspections (including scaffold), ensure temporary works are in place and lifting operations are safe

  • Complete daily briefings, reports, and safety documentation using digital tools

  • Ensure all work meets specification, programme and SHEQ standards

  • Liaise with site engineers, management, and client representatives as required

  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as project demands require

  • Flexibility to travel and stay away across Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon & Cornwall

Essential Requirements:
  • SMSTS

  • 3-Day First Aid at Work

  • CSCS Gold Card (NVQ L4 minimum)

  • Basic Scaffold Inspection Certificate

  • Temporary Works Supervisor

  • Lift Supervisor

  • NRSWA Supervisor

  • PTS (Personal Track Safety)

  • Full UK Driving Licence

  • Strong IT/reporting skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, tablets)

Preferred:
  • COSS (Controller of Site Safety)

  • Previous experience on a rail framework

  • 5+ years' experience as a Foreman in structural works

  • 5+ years experience in a rail environment
