Perform detailed structural surveys of rail infrastructure, including bridges, embankments, tunnels, and station buildings.
Produce thorough survey reports and provide assessments of existing rail structures in line with industry standards.
Develop structural designs for rail infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards (knowledge of STE4, STE5, and STE6 is beneficial, but not essential).
Collaborate with engineers to create detailed designs and drawings for projects involving track alignments, foundations, drainage systems, and more.
Ensure all design work adheres to Network Rail standards and other relevant codes, including health, safety, environmental, and sustainability regulations.
Work closely with senior engineers and project managers, contributing to design specifications and project progress.
Communicate with clients, contractors, and external stakeholders, providing updates and addressing any project issues.
Perform risk assessments on proposed designs and incorporate necessary mitigation measures.
Identify potential safety hazards in rail infrastructure and recommend innovative solutions.
Provide technical advice and support to clients and internal teams, ensuring clear and accurate documentation of design solutions.
Assist in managing project timelines, cost estimations, and resource allocation, ensuring all designs and surveys are completed on time and within budget.
Required Experience & Skills:
A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Chartered status or working towards it.
At least 3+ years of experience in structural surveying and design within the rail sector, specifically in the design of railway infrastructure.
Familiarity with STE4, STE5, and STE6 is preferred, but not essential. We are happy to support candidates willing to develop their expertise in these standards.
Proven ability to prepare structural reports, design calculations, and technical documentation.
Strong technical knowledge of structural design principles, including concrete, steel, timber, and composite materials.
In-depth understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to rail infrastructure.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
