Job Description:

Structural Investigation Engineer

RPS is currently seeking to recruit a Structural Investigation Engineer to join our Structures team.

About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple sectors, including residential, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, manufacturing, data centres, and energy. We focus on balancing form and function, sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation is central to our delivery, allowing clients to experience designs from concept through detailed drawings, supported by expertise across industries and disciplines. We assist clients in harmonising design drivers through innovative engineering, architecture, and development services.

What you’ll be doing: This role offers career progression as a Structural Engineer within our reputable industry-leading team, involved in residential foundation and superstructure projects, including low and medium-rise housing and commercial developments. You will help develop our structural investigation services for clients in London, Milton Keynes, and the Midlands.

Duties Include:

  • Conduct structural investigations and prepare reports on various building structures from residential to commercial, using different materials and structural forms.
  • Assist senior management in developing structural investigation services.
  • Manage structural engineering projects and teams independently.
  • Handle financial responsibilities for projects, including fee quotations and invoicing.
  • Manage staff and coordinate with other consultants.
  • Conduct site visits, structural surveys, investigations, and repair schemes for issues such as fires and foundation problems.

Who we’re looking for: You should have a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent), be chartered with ICE, IStructE, or progressing towards chartership.

Additionally you will:

  • Have experience in structural investigations and reporting for residential and commercial buildings, including tall structures, with various materials and forms.
  • Be experienced in identifying, reporting, and repairing building defects.
  • Be familiar with structural safety assessments and the Building Safety Act.
  • Have design experience in foundations, masonry, concrete, steel, and timber structures per Eurocodes.
  • Be knowledgeable about residential construction, including traditional and framed structures.
  • Ideally, be familiar with Tekla (Tekla Designer and Tedds) and AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Previous management experience is advantageous.
  • Be decisive, motivated, proactive, and innovative.

What’s in it for you? We are an accredited training provider supporting professional development at all levels. We offer personal development plans, clear career pathways, and a supportive environment that values diversity, ideas, and well-being. Flexible working options are available, including hybrid and remote work.

What happens next? If interested, we look forward to hearing from you. All applications will be considered, and we aim to respond within three working days. For more details, contact Parv Sandhu at RPS, a Tetra Tech company, which offers global project opportunities and solutions.
