Job Description:

Structural Investigation Engineer

RPS is currently seeking to recruit a Structural Investigation Engineer to join our Structures team.

About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple sectors, including residential, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, manufacturing, data centres, energy, and more. We focus on balancing form and function, considering sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation is central to our delivery, enabling clients to experience designs from concept through detailed drawings, supported by expertise across industries and disciplines. Our goal is to harmonise design drivers through engineering, architecture, and development services.

What you’ll be doing: This role offers an opportunity for career progression as a Structural Engineer within our reputable team. You will be involved in delivering residential foundation and superstructure projects, including low and medium-rise housing and commercial developments. You will also help develop our structural investigation services for clients in London, Milton Keynes, and the Midlands.

Duties Include:

  • Structural investigation and reporting on various building structures from residential to commercial, using different materials and structural forms.
  • Assist in developing structural investigation services with the Operations Director/Director.
  • Manage structural engineering projects and teams independently.
  • Handle financial responsibilities for your projects, including fee quotations and invoicing.
  • Manage staff and coordinate with other consultants.
  • Conduct site visits, structural surveys, investigations, and repair schemes, including issues like fires and foundation problems.

Who we’re looking for: The ideal candidate will have a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, be chartered with ICE, IStructE, or equivalent, or be progressing towards chartership.

Additionally you will:

  • Have experience in structural investigations and reporting for low-rise to medium-rise residential and tall buildings, across various materials and forms.
  • Be skilled in identifying, reporting, and repairing building defects.
  • Have experience related to building safety and the Building Safety Act.
  • Be proficient in designing foundations, masonry, concrete, steel, and timber structures according to Eurocodes.
  • Be familiar with the residential market, including traditional and framed structures.
  • Ideally, be familiar with Tekla software (Tekla Designer, Tedds) and AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Previous management experience is advantageous.
  • Be decisive, motivated, proactive, and innovative, with the ability to work autonomously.
