Job Description:

Structural Investigation Engineer

RPS is currently seeking to recruit a Structural Investigation Engineer to join our Structures team.

About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple, niche sectors from residential housing developments, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, data centres, energy, and more. We aim to achieve a balance between form and function, considering sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation is central to our delivery, enabling clients to experience designs from concept to completion through expertise spanning decades, industries, and disciplines.

What you’ll be doing: This role offers career progression as a Structural Engineer within a reputable team, involved in residential foundation and superstructure projects, including low and medium-rise housing and commercial developments. You will help develop our structural investigation service, serving clients in London, Milton Keynes, and across the Midlands.

Duties Include:

  • Structural investigation and reporting on various building structures from residential to commercial, using different materials and structural forms.
  • Assist senior management in developing the structural investigation services.
  • Manage projects and teams independently.
  • Handle financial aspects of projects, including fee quotations and invoicing.
  • Manage staff and external consultants.
  • Conduct site visits, structural surveys, investigations, and repairs related to issues like fires and foundation problems.

Who we’re looking for: Candidates should have a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, be chartered with ICE, IStructE, or equivalent, or working towards chartership.

Additionally, you will:

  • Have experience in structural investigations and reporting for low-rise to medium-rise residential and tall buildings, with various materials and structural forms.
  • Be skilled in identifying, reporting, and repairing building defects.
  • Be familiar with structural safety assessments and the 'Building Safety Act'.
  • Have design experience in foundations, masonry, concrete, steel, and timber structures, following Eurocodes.
  • Possess residential market experience, including traditional and framed structures.
  • Be familiar with Tekla software (Tekla Designer, Tedds) and AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Previous management experience is advantageous.
  • Be decisive, motivated, proactive, and innovative.

What’s in it for you? We support learning and development through accredited training, personal development plans, and clear career pathways. We value diversity, promote flexible working, and prioritize wellbeing. Join us for a career that’s far from ordinary, where you’re part of the solution.

What happens next? If interested, apply and we will consider all applications, aiming to respond within three working days. For more details, contact Parv Sandhu at RPS, a Tetra Tech company, which offers global project opportunities and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
