Structural Heart Disease Nurse Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a small friendly team providing support to the Lead Nurse Practitioner for structural heart disease. You will often work autonomously and have opportunities to develop your skills in the structural heart service. You will be the main point of contact and support for this group of complex patients from initial referral to post-discharge follow-up.

Main duties of the job
  • Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team for patients with structural heart disease, including those requiring TAVI, TEER, and PFO closure.
  • Manage the caseload of patients and communicate effectively with team members, patients, and relatives.
  • Run nurse-led clinics, undertake physical assessments, request relevant investigations, and make clinical decisions as an autonomous practitioner.

Person Specification
Qualification and training
  • Registered General Nurse with at least 5 years of practice experience.
  • Recognised postgraduate cardiac course.
  • At least 2 years in AFC band 6/7 roles.
  • Leadership and good communication skills.
  • Working towards clinical decision making/physical assessment, Masters, or independent prescribing qualification.
Skills/knowledge/ability
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Commitment to team working.
  • Willing to train and be trained.
  • Experience in writing protocols, auditing services, or conducting research.
  • Participation in Clinical Leadership Programmes.
