THE BUSINESS

We are seeking to recruit a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer for our client based in Northamptonshire.

Our client has a long-standing history in constructing landmark structures worldwide, especially iconic bridges and buildings. Their main focus now is on designing, manufacturing, and operating specialist equipment and temporary works for constructing bridges, buildings, offshore structures, refineries, power stations, and industrial plants. They have expertise in erecting long-span suspension and cable-stayed bridges and in engineering for modular construction, including heavy lifting and skidding operations.

THE ROLE
  • Managing engineering projects, including resource planning, design review, and ensuring deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Liaising with clients on technical matters.
  • Working within an established team of Engineers and CAD Technicians, following our Company Management Systems (ISO9001, ISO45001, ISO14001).
  • Mentoring and reviewing the work of Engineers and CAD Technicians.
  • Designing construction methods and temporary structures, especially in steel, to Eurocode standards.
  • Reviewing structural analysis using software like STAAD Pro and LUSAS.
  • Preparing design calculations, preferably with Microsoft Excel or manually.
  • Creating sketches and drawings by hand or using AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Supervising CAD team to produce 3D models and drawings.
  • Preparing technical documents, including design statements and risk assessments.
  • Preparing tender designs and cost estimates.
THE PERSON
  • Chartered Engineer with at least a 2:1 degree in civil/structural engineering.
  • Minimum 12 years of post-graduation experience in structural analysis and design, especially in steel.
  • Proficient in Eurocode standards.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Knowledge of temporary works, heavy lifting equipment, and techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with long-span bridges and major buildings.
  • Experience designing temporary works related to heavy lifting and moving projects.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and company management systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD packages like AutoCAD and Inventor; knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Some practical site or industrial experience.
