Elb Recruit are delighted to be representing a successful and growing independent structural engineering consultancy in the Greater Manchester region. This small, privately-owned practice has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality building design solutions and is now looking to appoint an ambitious Building Structures Design Engineer to join the team.

About the Role

You’ll be involved in the structural design and delivery of projects across residential, commercial, education, and heritage sectors. Working as part of a close-knit team, you’ll take projects from concept through to construction, applying your technical expertise while collaborating with architects, contractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake structural design in steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.
  • Carry out structural analysis and modelling using industry-standard software.
  • Prepare detailed drawings, design calculations, and specifications in line with current codes and standards.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, and contractors to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Support junior team members with technical guidance where required.
  • Contribute to design reviews and offer input into the practice’s growth and innovation.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Working towards or holding chartered status with IStructE or ICE (preferred but not essential).
  • Post-graduate experience in structural design within a consultancy environment.
  • Knowledge of both modern and traditional construction methods.
  • Experience working on heritage or historic buildings is advantageous.
  • Competent in structural design software (e.g., REVIT, Tekla, TEDDS, Robot, or similar).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with a client-focused mindset.
