Geosyntec is looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Dams and Levees practice in Oakland or Walnut Creek, California. You will apply your knowledge in the design and evaluation of reinforced concrete dam structures (spillways, weirs, outlet structures, etc.) and steel gate structures, participate in PFM and risk analyses, and support our Geostructural and Construction Engineering Practice. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders and establish yourself as a key member of our growing structural practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analysis, design, and detailing of structural steel and reinforced concrete dam structures.
  • Foundation design including pile caps, mats, footings, and substructures.
  • Structural design and detailing of work platforms, underground structures, and excavation support systems.
  • Modeling, analysis, design, and detailing of unconventional structures.
  • Structural value engineering, design review, constructability review, and risk assessment.
  • Erection engineering, global stability analysis, and controlled demolition.
  • Preparing technical documents including reports, calculation packages, and construction specifications.
  • Contributing to project proposals and budgets.
  • Conducting precondition surveys and construction inspections.
  • Coordinating with CAD designers on contract plans.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural focus (required).
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) (preferred).
  • Professional Engineer license in California (P.E.) (preferred).

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years (7+ preferred) of relevant experience in a design environment or equivalent education and experience (required).
  • Experience in the design and detailing of steel connections and reinforced concrete (required).
  • Experience in repair/retrofit design of concrete dam structures (preferred).
  • Ability to sit for the NCEES 16-Hour Structural Engineering exam within two years of hire (preferred).
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software (RISA, ETABS, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, GSA, etc.) (required).
  • Knowledge of collaboration software (Bluebeam Studio) and CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit) (preferred).
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling tools (preferred).
  • Experience working within the construction sector or with contractors/construction managers (preferred).
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines (required).
  • Willingness for regular fieldwork and overnight travel (required).
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers (preferred).
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record (required).
