Job summary

Jacobs in the United Kingdom seeks a self-motivated Civil/Structural Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team delivering world-class semiconductor facility designs. You will contribute to feasibility studies and full design delivery, coordinating with diverse disciplines to meet stringent quality standards.

The role requires strong communication, team collaboration, and adherence to Eurocode and international codes. Hybrid working arrangements and international project exposure are offered.

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (FETAC Level 8 minimum) and Chartered status or working toward chartership.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Structural Engineering Design.
  • Experience with Eurocode and international codes is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, assign, and delegate engineering and design tasks to produce construction documents with a team.
  • Manage scope, budget and schedule to meet project goals.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, civil, architectural and process disciplines to develop designs.
  • Lead plant design activities as an area/system leader and coordinate with multi-discipline designers.
  • Ensure quality plans and review construction submittals for conformance.

This role places you at the heart of a multi‑discipline, highly integrated engineering team dedicated first and foremost to delivering world‑class semiconductor manufacturing facilities, the most complex, high‑tech environments being built anywhere today. You’ll join a vibrant, fast‑paced team that partners with industry‑leading semiconductor clients around the globe, producing designs that meet the extreme precision, cleanliness, and reliability standards required for modern chip fabrication. We engineer some of the most sophisticated and specialised semiconductor facilities in the world, where ultra‑clean environments, advanced process systems, and highly controlled utilities converge.

Our project portfolio spans feasibility studies, long‑range semiconductor capacity planning, and full design delivery including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction‑phase services for both design/bid/build and design/build programmes.

The ideal candidate will be a self‑motivated individual with strong communication skills. They will exhibit a passion and desire to apply their technical experience and knowledge in a team environment on technically challenging and professionally rewarding projects. Our team is seeking a person who understands the importance of meeting their targeted commitments while being flexible to the ever‑changing and fast paced environment of our clients’ sites.

Responsibilities
  • Organize, assign, and delegate necessary engineering and design tasks to produce construction documents in conjunction with a team of engineers and designers.
  • Manage scope, budget and schedule to meet project goals.
  • Coordinate and collaborate real time with other disciplines such as mechanical, civil, architectural and process to develop designs.
  • Independently lead plant design activities as an area/system leader and coordinate with multi‑discipline designers.
  • Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and can work in a fast‑paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Responsible for detailed design of structures in steel, concrete and masonry in accordance with BS, EN, and international codes
  • Using a wide range of design software, backed up by hand calculation
  • Liaison with REVIT & CAD technicians to produce quality design deliverables
  • Exercise judgment in developing plans or alternatives and work with teams to assure quality plans.
  • Perform field activities such as observation of construction activities.
  • Review construction submittals for conformance with the intent of contract and design documents.
Here’s what you'll need
  • Hons. Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (FETAC Level 8 minimum)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Structural Engineering Design
  • More experienced Engineers are welcome to apply.
  • Chartered Structural Engineer or working towards chartership.
  • A good knowledge of the codes of practice – Eurocode, and International Codes (US and India codes are a bonus).
  • Experienced in the use of structural design Software.
Preferred Requirements
  • Strong relevant engineering/design experience in industrial/advanced technology sector or large scale industrial.
  • Design experience in reinforced concrete, steelwork, masonry, foundation design.
  • A proactive approach to solving problems with an ability to adapt to changing scenarios.
  • Excellent English level - written and spoken.
  • Ability to interact with other engineering disciplines, clients, and vendors at all levels.
