Job description

About Inyanga Maritime

Inyanga Maritime is transforming the future of marine renewable energy.

Combining world-class engineering, specialist marine operations and innovative technology, we are delivering some of Europe’s most exciting offshore renewable energy projects.

At the heart of our business is HydroWing—our next-generation tidal stream energy technology designed to provide predictable, low-carbon electricity at commercial scale.

HydroWing is now progressing towards commercial deployment through the 30 MW Morlais Project, one of Europe’s largest consented tidal energy developments and a flagship project that will help establish tidal stream energy as a mainstream source of renewable power.

Alongside HydroWing, Inyanga Maritime designs and delivers specialist offshore structures, marine engineering solutions and installation systems supporting offshore wind, subsea construction and marine infrastructure projects throughout the UK and internationally.

As our engineering team continues to expand, we are looking for an ambitious Structural Design Engineer to help develop the next generation of offshore renewable energy technology.

The Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional structural engineering role.

As a Structural Design Engineer, you will become part of a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for designing innovative offshore structures operating in one of the world’s harshest marine environments.

Working from concept development through detailed design, manufacture, testing and offshore deployment, you will play a key role in delivering HydroWing and supporting the successful implementation of the 30 MW Morlais Project.

Your work will directly influence the reliability, efficiency and commercial success of one of the world’s leading tidal energy technologies.

What You’ll Be Doing

Structural Design:

  • Design offshore steel structures, support frames and subsea foundations for HydroWing.
  • Develop innovative structural concepts for tidal energy devices and associated marine equipment.
  • Produce detailed engineering calculations and structural assessments.
  • Optimise designs for manufacturability, durability and offshore installation.

Engineering Analysis:

  • Perform structural and finite element analysis using STAAD Pro and ANSYS.
  • Assess static, dynamic and fatigue loading.
  • Undertake lifting, transportation and installation analyses.
  • Verify structural performance against offshore design standards.

Engineering Development:

  • Produce 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
  • Generate fabrication drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Prepare engineering reports, calculations and technical specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical risk assessments.

Project Delivery:

  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical and marine engineers.
  • Support fabrication, prototype assembly and offshore commissioning.
  • Liaise with suppliers, fabrication yards and certification bodies.
  • Assist engineering teams during offshore installation campaigns.

Innovation:

  • Contribute to the continuous development of HydroWing technology.
  • Identify opportunities to improve structural efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Support research, testing and product development programmes.
  • Help develop the next generation of offshore renewable energy systems.

Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in structural steel design.
  • Strong understanding of finite element analysis.
  • Experience using STAAD Pro, ANSYS, SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.

Desirable:

  • Offshore renewable energy experience.
  • Offshore wind or tidal energy.
  • Offshore structures.
  • Welded steel fabrication.
  • Fatigue analysis.
  • Eurocode and DNV standards.
  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards Chartership).

Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys solving challenging engineering problems.
  • Is passionate about innovation and renewable energy.
  • Works well within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Has a practical approach to engineering design.
  • Is motivated by seeing designs become operational offshore.
  • Wants to make a real contribution to the future of clean energy.

Why Join Inyanga?

Joining Inyanga Maritime offers the opportunity to become part of a passionate and highly experienced team delivering some of Europe’s most exciting marine renewable energy projects.

As a Structural Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Help engineer the 30 MW HydroWing Morlais Project, one of Europe’s largest commercial tidal energy developments.
  • Design innovative offshore structures for one of the world’s leading tidal energy technologies.
  • Work across the complete engineering lifecycle—from concept development and detailed analysis through manufacture, testing and offshore deployment.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, naval architects, marine operations specialists and offshore construction professionals.
  • Influence the future of marine renewable energy by developing technology that will contribute directly to the global transition to net zero.
  • Benefit from flexible working across our engineering offices in the Celtic regions of Cornwall, Brittany (France) and Anglesey (North Wales), working alongside an international team at the forefront of marine renewable energy.
  • Build your career within a growing company offering genuine responsibility, technical challenge and excellent opportunities for professional development.
