Structural Analysis Engineer - Brackley, UK

About the role:

The Mercedes Formula One Team seeks talented individuals motivated to succeed in a challenging environment. An exciting opportunity exists for an innovative Structural Analysis Engineer to work on complex mechanical and composite structures.

Reporting to the Head of Composite and Mechanical Stress, you will deliver precise engineering solutions that contribute to team success.

You will collaborate within a design team, applying your curiosity to meet diverse disciplinary demands.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Delivering optimal race-car parts and assemblies in collaboration with Design Engineers.
  • Performing structural analysis of car and test rig components using finite element and hand calculations.
  • Collaborating with other engineering departments to meet performance and reliability goals.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation, including FE results and calculations.
  • Supporting components throughout their lifecycle—from design to testing and in-service use.
  • Assisting the race team during race weekends and track tests.

What we’re looking for:

  • An engineering degree (minimum 2:1) with industry experience in high-performance engineering.
  • Knowledge of Motorsport Engineering is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of finite element and hand calculation methods.
  • Experience with fatigue, non-linear material behavior, and contact analysis preferred.
  • Proficiency in FEA tools such as Hyperworks and Abaqus; FE-Safe is a plus.
  • Knowledge of composite materials and FE modeling with Laminate Tools.
  • Experience with optimization tools like Tosca and Optiassist is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a diverse, no-blame environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently across the organization.
  • Experience with 3DX design and proficiency in Excel are advantageous.
