An established industry player is seeking a passionate Delivery Manager to lead the final phase of a groundbreaking project aimed at restoring marine habitats for coastal protection. This role involves translating research into actionable outputs, managing budgets, and fostering partnerships to enhance flood resilience. With a significant funding boost, this innovative initiative promises to make a real difference in combating climate challenges. If you have a proven track record in project management and a commitment to environmental sustainability, this opportunity is perfect for you.
Location: Town Hall, South Shields
Stronger and more frequent storm events along with projected sea level rise, mean that coastal communities in the UK are increasingly vulnerable to the effects of coastal erosion and flood risk. The UK seeks to be a world-leader in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises, and government policy and strategy signals an appetite for harnessing the power of nature-based solutions to flooding and coastal resilience.
At present, the use of marine nature-based solutions to coastal resilience are limited in the UK. The eroding north east coastline was identified as an ideal location for testing and demonstrating practical actions to restore and monitor marine habitats for their coastal protection value and a funding bid was submitted at the beginning of the year. The Council was successful in securing £6.9mof funding from the Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (DEFRA)for this 6 year regional project. The project – ‘Stronger Shores – Marine Habitats Protecting Coastal Communities’ –involves the restoration and monitoring of sub-tidal habitats, such as seagrass, kelp and oyster beds, for their coastal protection value as well as the associated benefits of carbon capture, biodiversity gain and improved water quality.
South Tyneside is the lead authority for this regional scheme and is looking for an experienced and passionate Delivery Manager to drive forward the final phase of translation of research and project data into delivery outputs. Experience of delivering successful and innovative large-scale projects and partnership working is essential. Along with proven experience of staff and budget management, work experience in flood and coastal risk management is essential. A secondment would be considered for a suitable candidate – please seek permission from your Line Manager before applying.
