An opportunity has arisen within the Borders Stroke Unit in Borders General Hospital for a flexible, enthusiastic individual to assist in the provision of patient centred care. This post is up to 37 hours and is suitable for a job share.

The practitioner will have/develop high levels of decision making and clinical judgment, be able to work independently and in conjunction with other health professionals. You will assess and initiate treatment, investigations, advice, and management of patients using professional decision-making processes to ensure safe, patient centred care.

This will be facilitated in partnership with patients, carers, and families. You will provide specialist advice to healthcare professionals, other agencies, carers, clients, and relatives.

You will play a vital role as the Stroke Outreach Nurse, responding to Thrombolysis and thrombectomy Calls. There will be an element of aftercare including running regular stroke review clinics.

They will assist the service to improve practice and work collaboratively across healthcare boundaries, implementing and evaluating evidence based standards, guidelines and policies.

The service currently runs Monday to Friday, as the service develops there maybe a requirement for weekend working.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
