About the Role

Are you a Mechanical Engineer with a background in finite element analysis who thrives on solving difficult problems? Are you drawn to complex analysis projects and eager to move into leadership roles, heading projects and mentoring junior engineers?

If so, you could be tackling some of the energy industry's most critical challenges for a variety of clients. This might include extending reactor lifespans, validating new build stations, assessing fusion system components, supporting UK submarine and SMR programs, or advancing renewable energy projects within a growing carbon net zero portfolio. The role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously, so adaptability is essential. The core of this position is working on complex jobs and providing innovative solutions to diverse client problems.

Key Responsibilities

You will develop engineering solutions to industry challenges, contributing significantly to energy and environmental security in the UK and beyond. You'll work in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams within supportive office or site environments for at least half your working week. A commercial awareness is important to deliver tasks across multiple workstreams effectively, meeting deadlines and quality standards.

Essential Criteria

  • A degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant qualification.
  • Experience in delivering complex stress analyses or structural integrity assessments (thermal-mechanical, fracture, fatigue, creep, impact).
  • Proven ability to write precise, comprehensive technical reports.
  • Experience engaging with clients and understanding their issues, goals, and processes.

Preferred Experience (Flag if applicable)

  • Experience in safety-critical, regulated environments, including bid writing.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes such as ASME III, RCC-M, BS7910, R3, R5, R6.
  • Workflow automation experience, ideally with Python.
  • Chartered status or nearing professional registration.

This role may require security clearance, which depends on UKSV vetting processes. Applicants should not mention current or past security clearances in applications or conversations. We promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds.
