Job summary

Government of The United Kingdom is seeking a Streetscene Operative to support high-quality environmental, grounds maintenance and street cleansing services across the borough.

You will work as part of a dedicated team, performing duties from litter picking and street sweeping to grass cutting, waste collection and winter maintenance, and respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Litter picking, street cleansing, and environmental cleanliness required.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Good literacy and numeracy and able to follow safety guidance.

Responsibilities

• Litter picking and street cleansing across the borough.
• Graffiti removal and fly-tip clearance.
• Collection of domestic, trade, and bulk waste.
• Emptying waste bins and managing waste flow.
• Grass cutting, hedge trimming, shrub maintenance.
• Beach and foreshore upkeep and maintenance.
• Winter maintenance using manual/mechanical equipment.
• Operate a range of tools and vehicles including mowers and sweepers.

Job description

As a Streetscene Operative, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality environmental, grounds maintenance, and street cleansing services across the borough. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will help maintain parks, open spaces, streets, beaches, and public areas to the highest standards., You will be involved in a wide range of duties, including:

• Litter picking, street sweeping, and environmental cleansing.
• Graffiti removal and fly-tip clearance.
• Collection of domestic, trade, and bulk waste.
• Emptying waste bins.
• Grass cutting, hedge trimming, shrub maintenance.
• Beach and foreshore maintenance activities.
• Responding to emergency situations, including discarded needle collections and roadkill removal.
• Winter maintenance duties using both manual and mechanical equipment.
• Operating a variety of tools, machinery, and vehicles, including mowers, strimmers, sweepers, vans, tractors, and other specialist equipment where qualified.
  Have experience in grounds maintenance, street cleansing, waste collection, or similar environmental services.
• Understand the importance of health and safety in a practical working environment.
• Are reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Can work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake physically demanding activities.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards the public.
• Are proactive and capable of using their initiative to resolve issues and improve the local environment.
• Have good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Hold a current driving licence (C1 licence desirable).
